Paul Parsons
Lab Director

Paul Parsons is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University. He holds a PhD in computer science, with a focus on human-computer interaction and information visualization, from the University of Western Ontario. He also holds a BS in computing and cognitive science from Queen’s University.

Ya-Hsin Hung
Affiliated Postdoc

Ya-Hsin (pronounced Ya-Sin) is a postdoctoral scholar in psychological sciences, working primarily with Dr. Robert Proctor, Dr. Erin Hennes, and Dr. Sean Lane. She completed her PhD at Purdue in Industrial Engineering (Human Factors track) in 2019, co-advised by Dr. Steven Landry and Dr. Paul Parsons. Her research focuses on assessing emotional engagement with data visualizations, and user experience (UX) evaluation techniques in general.

Tugba Karabiyik
Affiliated Postdoc
Tugba Karabiyik is an Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Researcher in the Polytechnic Institute at Purdue University. She holds an MS in Applied and Computational Mathematics and a PhD in Biological Mathematics from Florida State University. Her research interests are game theoretic and statistical modeling,  data analytics, design thinking and data-driven decision making in various domains.
Ali Baigelenov
PhD Student

Ali is a PhD student in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, working with Dr. Paul Parsons. His research interests include information visualization, cognition, user experience, and education. 

Zixu Zhang
PhD Student

Zixu is a PhD student studying information visualization, human factors, and cognitive engineering. He has a MS degree in industrial engineering from Purdue and a BS in aeronautical engineering from Beihang University. He is currently working on the Resilient Extraterrestrial Habitats Project.

Prakash Shukla
PhD Student

Prakash is a PhD student in the Polytechnic Institute at Purdue, working with Dr. Paul Parsons. He has completed his undergrad in Design from IIT Guwahati and his MS from Purdue in User Experience Design. His research interests lie in Information Visualization and User Experience Design.

Chorong Park
MS Student

Chorong Park is pursuing masters degree in UX Design at Purdue. She completed her undergraduate degree at University of Illinois Cum Laude. She has worked as a visual and web designer over five years, which lead her interest to study HCI and UX design. Her focus is user experience, design fixation, and information visualization. By synthesizing knowledge from various sources, she hopes to creates delightful, engaging experiences.

Rachel Anderson
MS Student

Rachel is a Master’s student studying UX design. Rachel completed her undergraduate degree in Marketing & Hospitality Management from the University of Denver. While she spent a few years in industry, it was through a class on UX Design that she found her true passion. Rachel is excited to combine her passions of design and enhancing people’s experiences. She is looking forward to completing this program and applying these concepts and lessons to future jobs.

Kaitlin Groothuis
Undergraduate Student

Kaitlin Groothuis is a junior in Purdue’s User Experience Design program, minoring in Psychology. Her focus right now is on user research, and aims to do agency work in the social sector. Her midwestern roots are in Kokomo, Indiana. As a designer, she hopes to be a metaphorical mushroom: decomposing information in order to create meaningful interactions with technology. Kaitlin is working on the Science Gateways Project.

Ariana Eskew
Undergraduate Student

Ariana Eskew is a junior studying User Experience Design. She is pursuing minors in Psychology and Advanced Global Technology and certificates in Collaborative Leadership and Global Competence. Her choice to pursue design stems from her love of fostering meaningful connections between people and technology and creating striking visual designs. Ariana is working on the Science Gateways Project.

Ishaan Dandia
Undergraduate Student

Ishaan Dandia is a sophomore studying User Experience Design and pursuing a double minor in Psychology and Communications. He hopes to specialize in visual design, web development, and product management. Ishaan is working on the Science Gateways Project.

Kanika Rao
Undergraduate Student

Kanika Rao is currently a junior studying User Experience Design with minors in Psychology and Communication. Her interests currently lie in Project Management, Data Visualization, and User Research. The many opportunities that lie within the space of user experience design and the many opportunities to improve or enhance the experience of different users while enacting direct change in different communities excites Kanika. Kanika is working on the Science Gateways Project.

Jackson Murray
Undergraduate Student

Jackson joins the DVC Lab while pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in UX Design. Before joining the DVC Research Team, he completed work as a Purdue Resident Assistant, Undergrad Teaching Assistant, and Photographer. His interest lies in improving his technical skills, problem-solving, and networking. He is currently working on the NSF Mental Models Project
